One of my favorite all-time exercises to build muscle fast and get strong are behind the neck presses. However, as much as I like this exercise, it’s a very difficult one to be able to perform.
Back when I did them regularly, I had a very convoluted method of getting into position that involved me picking up the bar, pressing it overhead, and finally doing an overhead squat down to a chair to do my reps. It was very taxing, and not very efficient.
There are many racks that were made for behind the neck presses, but I’m just not a fan of them – AT ALL.
This is because they have to be built with the rack in which the bar sits well behind the bench that you sit on. Now, this has to be designed like this in order for the bar to clear the rack when you do your reps. However, unless you have a spotter to help you get the bar on and off the rack, it puts your shoulders in a very vulnerable and dangerous positions. Injuries are likely.
